We received 178 responses to the second ENGclusion questionnaire.

This is the first questionnaire that examined the main factors of belonging, authenticity, satisfaction, and cultural wellbeing. All of these factors could impact who stays in the engineering and technology sectors, so it is important that workplaces are set up so that everyone can thrive.

  • Sense of Belonging: Includes overall sense of belonging, social connections, and emotional connections in someone’s current workplace or place of study.
  • Authenticity: Includes three sub-factors of authentic living (being true to self), self-connection (knowing who one is), and external influence (resisting influence from others).
  • Satisfaction: Includes current job satisfaction or satisfaction with their place of study and overall career satisfaction.
  • Cultural Wellbeing: Includes feelings of safety, empowerment, enjoyment, and satisfaction with your organisation’s understanding of one’s identity.

A summary of the means for each factor or sub-factor are shown below. Overall, the mean scores are fairly high with the exception of the rejecting external influence sub-factor of Authenticity. However, when looking at differences across demographics, we already see differences for both gender and ethnicity for some of these factors, indicating some potential areas where organisations can take action to improve equity and inclusion. Our analysis is currently underway, and we will share more detailed results as they become available along with recommendations for industry based on our findings.
